Overview
I developed a computer vision system for construction sites to automatically track trucks and heavy machinery. The goal was to replace manual counting and observation with accurate, automated monitoring.

The challenge
On the construction site, a person was responsible for:
Counting inbound and outbound trucks
Estimating whether trucks were fully or partially loaded
Recording working time and rest time
Tracking how much material (sand) was transported
This manual process was slow and could lead to mistakes. There was no precise, real-time data about machine activity or transported volume.
The company needed a more reliable and automated solution.
My solution
I built a machine vision system that monitors the site using video cameras.
The system detects and tracks:
Trucks
Excavators
Bulldozers
Each vehicle receives a stable ID, so it can be tracked during the entire time on site. The system measures:
Arrival time
Departure time
Active working time
Idle time
By analyzing movement and loading activity, the system determines if a truck is fully or partially loaded. It also estimates the amount of material transported from the excavation area.
The system can recognize additional information such as:
License plate number
Vehicle brand
Company
All data is stored and organized automatically. The system generates structured reports showing:
Inbound and outbound truck counts
Total working and rest time
Estimated transported volume
Activity per company
The result
The company received a fully automated monitoring system that:
Replaces manual counting
Provides accurate working-time tracking
Improves transparency between contractors
Reduces human error
Gives clear operational reports
Managers can now see real activity data without constant on-site supervision.
